The Two Environmental Problems
Symptoms of the Problem. |
For many decades now the root cause of the world's environmental problems has been clear:
|
Problem 1: There are too many people consuming too many resources and emitting too much pollution. |
The broad solutions to this have also become increasingly clear:
- Reduce world population growth.
- Reduce resource consumption.
- Reduce pollution.
This leads us to the second problem:
|
Problem 2: The majority have repeatedly voted against measures that would solve these problems. |
To be effective environmentalists must propose solutions that are attractive to today's electorate.
Populist Environmental Measures
Typically this involves a revenue-neutral tax shift from 'Goods' to 'Bads' - See our Eco Tax page.
These measures are designed to address both Problem 1 and 2. All solutions have to be economically and above all politically feasible.
| Environmental solutions that people don't vote for are irrelevant. |
