Rob Ewart
VRRDA Treasurer & Publicity Officer.
Rob discovered the pleasure of Rock'n'Roll dancing just a few months before the demise of Just Rock. He credits Kevin & Carol Ross of the Fourmost Dance Company for stimulating his interest in the more technical aspects of this form of dancing.
After a career in Local Government, supporting community arts, sport and leisure activities, Rob felt obliged to get involved with the VRRDA. He is also a Forum Moderator on www.vicrock.com.au.

Rob loves the raunchiness ofMelbourne's pub scene and prefers dancing to Roots Rock, Rockabilly and R&B.

Irene Amos
VRRDA Committee Member

Irene started Rock 'n' Roll dancing in the late fifties in Glasgow, Scotland before moving to Melbourne and attending dances at the Canterbury ballroom and Leggets ballroom and various town halls around the city.
She started teaching at Just Rock in the mid 90's and continued on at various venues. Irene and Tommy competed successfully at various competitions, winning the VRRDA State Advanced event in 1997.  Irene & Tommy appeared in the "Rocking Back the Clock" show at the Melbourne Concert Hall in 1995 with the Allstars.
Irene has judged at numerous events including the State Championships for the last four years. " I really enjoy my dancing and judging and the social side of the Rock 'n' Roll scene ".
Marj Coates
VRRDA Committee Member

Marj works as a medical receptionist. She and Brian first started dancing at Just Rock.
"After a while we thought we would have a change and started dancing with Carol & Kevin of Fourmost Dance Co.
It was with Fourmost that we started to dance competitivley throughout Victoria & Interstate with success in both.
We both have a passion for this style of dance and we have made lots of lifelong friends through our dancing."
Marj thought that she would like to give something back to the Rock'n'Roll scene and decided to nominate for the VRRDA committee.

Don Malek
VRRDA Committee Member

Don is a business executive who, over the last few years, has developed a passion for competitive Rock'n'Roll dancing.
He and Cheryl have been adding to their tally of successes at a range of dance events.
Their passion has taken them throughout Australia and to international events such as the New Zealand Rock'n'Roll championships, Swing & Lindy championships in LA and they even danced with the locals in Canada.
Don and Cheryl have made many friends and enjoyed what Rock'n'Roll has given them over the last few years, and as such, Don joined the VRRDA with the philosophy of "wanting to give something back" to a dance style that has given both of them so much.
David Gilfillan
VRRDA Vice President.
David started to learn Rock & Roll in 2002 through the inspiration of his partner Annette Niven, who at that time was a member of the Fourmost Dance Company.
It was under the watchful eyes of both Kevin and Carol Ross, the teachers at Fourmost, that David found a lasting desire to learn the art of dance.
David openly admits that through the friendships shown to him from others within the dance group, and from dancers around the Melbourne area and Interstate, he has formed lifelong friendships.
Both he and Annette have competed locally and Interstate, with much success over their dancing journey, and can still be seen today in and around the competition scene.
David's first love in sport would have to be that of following his beloved Manchester United which he has done since 1973.  He is a big fan within the AFL of Hawthorn FC and is a keen fisherman in his leisure time, given the opportunity.

Annette Niven
VRRDA Committee Member
Annette loves all forms of dance and it has been her main hobby throughout her life. She started dancing at an early age and learnt ballet and tap when young. She took up ballroom dancing in her mid-twenties and went on to complete Gold medal exams in Ballroom and Latin American. She began learning Rock
'n'Roll dancing in 2001 at Fourmost. Rock'n'Roll is now her way of keeping fit while having fun and making lots of new friends.
Along with her partner David, she has competed in VRRDA State Championship Finals since 2002, taking out 1st placings in Beginners, Intermediate, Masters, Fifties and Fifties Lifts over the years and placing 3rd in the Senior Title in 2005. They have regularly competed in the SE Australian Championships and have won the Golden Era event each time they have competed since 2004. They were Senior Champions in 2005 and runners-up in 2006 and 2009. They competed at Wintersun in 2004 and 2005, gaining 3rd in the Hepcats event both years. They successfully competed in the Adelaide Championships in 2009, bringing home several trophies. They will compete in Adelaide again in 2010 and plan to compete in the NZ Senior Nationals.
