15.  Event Categories
       The following events will be available for Competition
       a.   Youth Beginners
       b.   Youth Intermediate
       c.   Youth Advanced
       d.   Adult Beginners
       e.   Adult Intermediate
       f.   Adult Advanced

       g.   Youth Lifts
       h.   Adult Lifts
       i.    Nifty Fifties Lifts - (new for 2008)

       j.   Junior No Lifts
       k.   Teen No Lifts
       l.  Young Adult No Lifts
       m.   Masters No Lifts
       n. Nifty Fifties No Lifts

       o.  Youth Triples
       p.  Adult triples

       q.  Teams

      r.   Adult State Title
      s.   Youth State Title

16.  Definitions of Grades

       a.    Beginner
       i.     A Competitor who has danced for less than two years.
       ii.   The Competitor has not previously won a Rock and Roll dance competition before.
       iii.  However a Winner of a Beginner Event may ask to be re-graded as a Beginner.
       iv.   Where one of the partners is of a higher grade, then the Beginner must dance in the
              advanced partner’s grade.
       v.   Once dancing up in a higher section, competitors may not dance down again. There is   
             no restriction on the types or numbers of moves displayed during the competition
             bearing in mind it is a no lift event. Judges can upgrade dancers to Intermediate or
             Advanced at any time.

       b.   Intermediate
       i.    This section is reserved for those who have been dancing more than two years and are competent  
             social dancers.
       ii.   Dancers who have previously won an Intermediate section should enter the Advanced section, 
             however if couples feel they are not advanced enough they may ask for a re-grading.
       iii.   A winner of the Youth Section Intermediate, when moving into the Adult Section may ask to be re-
             graded as Adult Intermediate.
       iv.  Once dancing up in a higher section, competitors may not dance down again.

       c.   Advanced
       i.   This section is for the competitors who have danced in advanced previously, been graded advanced
             or previously won the Intermediate section.
       ii.   Advanced competitors may not dance down in Intermediate or Beginners sections
       iii.  A winner of the Youth Advanced, when moving into the Adult Section may ask to be re-graded as   
             Adult Intermediate.

17.  Age Category Definitions

       a.   The following age categories will apply.
             i.    Adult - 18 years and Over
             ii.   Youth - Under 18 years
             iii.  Junior - 12 years and Under
             iv.  Teen - 13 years  and Over to Under 18 years
             v.   Young Adult - 18 years and Over to Under 35 years
             vi.  Masters - 35 years and Over to Under 50 years
             vii. Nifty 50s - 50 years and Over


      b.   Competitors who are 18 and over may compete in Adult events and either Young Adult, Masters or 
            Nifty 50s. Competitors who are Under 18 may compete in Youth events and either Junior or Teen 
            events.

      c.    Competitors in the Junior Section may dance in Teen events.

      d.    Competitors in the Nifty 50s Section may dance in Masters or Young Adult events.

      e.    Competitors in the Masters Section may dance in Young Adult events.

      f.     In the event of partners in a couple being different age groups, they shall compete in the older
             partners group in the case of Under 18s, and in the younger partners age group in the case of the 18
             years and older.

      g.    An Adult couple may only dance in one age category out of Young Adult, Masters or Nifty 50's.
             Likewise a Youth couple may only dance in one age category out of Junior or Teen.
   
 
      h.    Notwithstanding Section 17(f), an individual may compete in more than one age section with
             different partners in each section.

      i.     A competitor who is Under 18 years of age, may dance in events for 18 and older provided;
             i.  Their partner is 18 or over, or in the case of doubles at least one member of the trio is 18 (and the 
                 others at least 16 years of age), and;
             ii. They are 16 years or older at the date of the Final.

      j.     All ages will be based upon competitor’s age at the date of the Finals.

      k.    The Committee, at any time, during the Champioships may require proof of age. If proof of age is
             not forthcoming the Committee of the VRRDA reserves the right to decide in which age Categories
             the Competitor may dance.
