Proof Of Age
Your Age Category is taken from your age at the date of the State Finals.  If you are on the edge of an age category or if you do not look your age make sure you bring proof of age with you to the competition, just in case there is a challenge.
Dress Code
Competitors gain points for looking the part.  We are aiming to recreate a stylised look of the era. Competitors can lose points and even be disqualified for violating the dress code.  Make sure you understand the code before you choose your costumes.
A swirling skirt and petticoats for women and a coordinating bowling shirt for men is always a popular look, but it is not set in concrete.
You could try for a different look but it has to be authentic.  If your costume is going to push the boundaries make sure you bring pictures and/or documents from the '50s to verify your chosen style.  You can ask the Committee for an advance confidential ruling, just to be sure.
Dance Styles
Rock'n'Roll dancing draws its steps from many sources including Lindy, Ballroom Jive and Latin dancing.  It is quite appropriate to include a few moves from such sources in your competition routines so long as your dance style is clearly Rock'n'Roll.  Be very careful not to let any of these sources dominate your movements.
