Quotes from the Bear Truth

Over the years there have been many famous (and not so famous) sayings that have caught the imagination of the crowds. Admittedly most of these come from Nick Waterman but Zacco could always rip off a stunner with the correct number of Southern & Cokes under his belt.

• When Nick Waterman was asked if he could sail a yacht he replied "Well, I'm a salesman aren't I?"

• Zacco (who else!) "Who needs a Melways when there's plenty of map around"

• Brian Parsons (a friend of Nick King) on taking a look at his current levels of home-brew supplies "We're getting desperately low, we're down to 10 gallons."

• We forget who said this one "You know you're a Hairbear when your good drinking mates are the same ones you used to share your playlunch with at Primary school."

• Also forget who said this "It's a sad day for the Tax Office when Zag takes a day off."

• Nick Waterman overheard on the final siren at the footy after Carlton beat Essendon "You're only good for four quarters Carlton" (This comment caused the two rows in front to look around with some surprise).

• Judy Hooper "Guys are like a bed of roses - they're all pricks."

• Mick Hooper (we think) on travelling and camel's milk

• Again we forget but it was at a restaurant and a Bear asked the waitress "Can we have the Silly Bolsby please?" Waitress "I beg your pardon." Bear "The bill of course!" (Silly Bolsby is really called Billy Solsby and using rhyming slang the Bear was asking for the bill - well, it seemed funny at the time).

• Zacco to Nick King "Shut up pommie" (succinct yes, incisive not really, but this was Zacco's hallmark statement for many years and we couldn't leave this one out)

• Someone to Nick Waterman "No Warts, you can't!" Nick in reply "Don't call me a can't!"

• Maureen Homewood to Mandy "Hello Theresa"
