I finished only two things 2003 - the wallhanging "Passenger Seat Window" and an I Spy quilt for a young friend. My excuse is that I moved interstate. I started a year quilt but it died. About the time I moved.
2004 was more productive. I am well on my way with my everlasting pansy project - I was aiming have the top completed on my pansies this year but I missed the target again. Oh well, maybe 2005.
But I did complete a picture which I starting in 2000, a needleturn applique cushion (a project from my craft group), two wallhangings and various Birthday and Christmas presents. More to the point, I think I only started one new UFO in 2004 so I ended the year with the same number of UFOs as when I started!
I don't have photos to hand of the two wallhangings, so I'll add them later!
Passenger Seat Window (2003)Inspired while "driving" back from Melbourne to Sydney. At the time I was sitting in the passenger seat - I try not to design quilts and drive at the same time. I have a number of quilts along this theme in my head - hopefully this will be one of series. But if not, then at least I've done one! The brown is meant to represent country roads, the grey is highway. The blue are rivers/streams. Given the drought, they should be brown - just mud - but then you wouldn't tell them apart from the roads! I'll leave you to guess what I'm trying to "suggest" with the quilting. (Hint: think maps.)
Missing In Action |
Kangaroo PawPattern by Oz Dye Art. A present for my Mum's birthday. I can't find a photograph of it, so I will get another one when I visit next.
St Peters Church, Tawstock Devon (2004)In 1999/2000, I attended a workshop given by Jenny Bowker on turning a picture into a quilted picture. I worked from a photo I took whilst visiting relatives in England. It is a machine appliqued piece, without any quilting. I completed the picture in February 2004. The picture was made for my father as the church has family significance. It took only a couple of years longer than intended!
Bird Of Paradise Cushion (2004)An exercise in needleturn applique. I turned it into a cushion rather than have another UFO. Designed from a flower in my own garden.
2004 Coorparoo Quilt Show ChallengeThe challenge for the quilt show was a 10" square, bound with special bindings so they could be tied together. The theme was your favourite thing about quilting. My entry was "The Spirit Of Quilting" - Compassion, Creativity, Encouragement and Laughter.
Welcome WallhangingWorkshop with Michelle Steel. Actually finished in the same year that I started it!
Clare's Bag (2004)The Gateway Craft Group had a retreat and we made bags using a freeform stitching technique. Each bag was unique - I did a tote style bag with a freeform heart. The bag is now across the water in New Zealand.
Christmas 2004 PresentsI made bowls for Mum, MIL and SIL, along with bags for my niece and nephew. I'll leave you to guess which bag was for which child! The bowls were designed based on photos on the Internet and a talk given at a Craft show. DH made up the pattern in CAD. The bright bag is a version of the hexagon based bags that are in the patchwork shops at the moment while the pink angel bag is my own design using home made fake chenille. But I can't draw faces for quids. I've made two of the pink bags this year - one for my self (without the fluffy handle) and this one.
