1. ROBERT1
ISBELL1 was born
in probably England, and died 1655 in New London, CT. He married ANN1. She was born in probably England, and died
15 September 1689 in New London, CT.
Notes for ROBERT ISBELL:
From Edna Warren Mason, page iii: Robert Isbell came to New England 1635-36,
perhaps in the ship Defence of London.
Thos. Bostocke, Mr., sailing from London for New England, July 4, 1635,
as on the sailing list is "Robert (???)," according to footnote,
"surname and age illegible." Above the name, Robert, is "Ann
Wells, age 23," perhaps she is the Ann who became his wife.
Children of ROBERT ISBELL
and ANN are:
2. i. ELEAZER2
ISBELL, b. Abt. 1640, probably Salem, MA; d. 2 September
1677, Killingworth, CT.
ii. HANNAH ISBELL1,
b. Abt. 1642, probably Salem, MA; m. THOMAS STEDMAN.

15 June 1698 in Killingworth, Middlesex, CT.
She was born Abt. 1678 in Killingworth, Middlesex, CT, and died 23 June
1728 in Killingworth, Middlesex, CT.
Notes for ROBERT ISBELL:
Hall Genealogy, written by David Brainerd Hall, claims
that Robert Isbell marries Elizabeth Hall at the same date as that of the
Robert Isbell and Miriam Carter marriage from other sources. Hall Genealogy also states that the father
of Robert Isbell is Ebenezer Isbell, who does not exist.
Graves Genealogy ( http://www.gravesfa.org/gen065.htm
) also states Robert Isbell is married to Elizabeth Hall and that it is
"Mary or Marion" who is their daughter, married to Ebenezer Graves.
My contention is that both Hall and Graves genealogies
are inaccurate and Edna Warren Mason's account stands as historically
sound. A majority of reports
regarding the marriage of Robert Isbell and Elizabeth Hall cite a date of 1691
at LDS and WorldConnect. There are conflicting
c.1698 marriage reports regarding Elizabeth Hall, citing husband surnames of
Isbell, Ferris and Payne. Mason's
report of Robert and Miriam Carter Isbell's daughter, Miriam, who married
Ebenezer Graves, is consistent with a logic.
It would seem very likely that Miriam Isbell was named for her mother,
Miriam Carter.
