QUE Theatre Inc. is a youth theatre organisation based in Toowoomba. QUE Theatre has
been running programs to engage and empower Toowoomba’s youth since 2001 and
was incorporated in 2003. QUE was borne out of a partnership between Queensland
Theatre Company, University of Southern Queensland and the Empire Theatres and
while now an independent body, it still enjoys the support of these three
institutions. QUE’s mission
is to empower young people through unique learning, development opportunities,
and engagement in all facets of theatrical endeavour. As such it is the only
cultural organisation within the Darling Downs that has a process-driven youth
focus, a responsibility the organisation takes very seriously. The core values
of teamwork, audience development, dynamic and flexible approaches to
theatre-making, investing in participants, and mentoring are demonstrated
throughout all their programs. Similarly, QUE’s vision to be an innovative and
professional youth theatre organisation for all young people of the Darling
Downs is used as a guiding principle in all of QUE’s endeavours. QUE values
theatre as a way of giving voice to those often over-looked in our communities
and has developed programs especially for the disabled, indigenous and rural
people of the Darling Downs who are often not served or represented by the
mainstream cultural infrastructure.
