Stuff about Helen
I was born in Melbourne 1978, which recently seems like a long time ago because I am coming to the realisation that I am getting old!
I have lived in Melbourne all of my life, growing up in Heathmont, east of the city. I went to Marlborough Primary School, which was great. My favourite teacher was Mr Powell, who taught me in Grade 1 and 3.
The Pic is from Dec 2004 when we hired another MX-5 and drove around the Sunshine Coast.
After completing primary school, I went to Ringwood Secondary College, because it has a great music program. It was great fun. I was involved in Musical productions, bands, orchestras, choirs and when I was in year twelve, I was elected one to two Music Captains. This was the first time that the roles had existed in the school.
After High School, I went to Swinburne Lilydale, and completed a Bachelor of Business. The university was fairly new then, which meant that there was no graffiti on the toilet walls, the computer equipment was new and the buildings were not falling down around our ears. It was a great experience, but the "Let's go get drunk" attitude did not attract me at all.
I graduated from Swinburne in 1999, and started work at Saward Dawson, which is a fantastic place to work. I have been with the firm for over five years now and I have been challenged in many different areas. I started working in tax, business services and audit, but after two years, I have specialised in audit. I have many responsibilities, including training, review and supervising staff. The firm is different because the partners genuinely care about each staff member, and encourage us to be involved in many areas outside work such as church and other community programs. I fell very blessed to have a job with Saward Dawson. If you are looking for a career in Accounting, this is the first place you must look.
In 2001, I married the man of my dreams, David. We have now been married for over three years and it has been great. We have had our ups and downs, like any marriage, but it is all worth it.
Church
We spend most of our spare time at Glen Waverley Uniting Church, which challenges us no end. We are involved in the 18+ small group, we take the 12-14 year old small group, I sing and lead worship, we are both on church council and youth council. There are many more activities that we are involved in, but I will not bore you with it all now.
Family
We have both been blessed with great families.
Helen's parents still live in Heathmont, after living there for over 30 years. They are both involved at Heathmont Uniting Church, the church were Helen grew up. Her mum currently works for an organisation called Women Today, that produce radio programs for Christian Women in today's culture. Her dad works at the Bureau of Metrology, where he has worked for the past 40 years.
Helen's brother Tony currently works for HP in the Amcor Help Desk. He spends most of his time working, ballroom dancing or spending time with his girlfriend. We miss him heaps.
David's parents live in Queensland, in Toowoomba. We don't see them very often because we live down in Melbourne. We often travel up to Queensland to see them. David's mum works in a breast screening clinic in town and his dad works for Pioneer. David's parents also spend most of their spare time worshiping at West Toowoomba Presbyterian Church.
David's sister Kellie currently is living in Toowoomba with David's parents. She is 23 and has completed a degree in Animal Science. She has recently got engaged, which is going to be great fun.
David's brother Luke has just finished a Science degree at USQ, and is working part-time in Toowoomba. He loves fishing and shooting. He goes away for the weekend at every chance he can get.
