In England 2 CONC overtime was worked in the good times, at no extra pay, then there would 2 CONC be periods of no work - no pay. - Isaac did not want to be a tailor, but 2 CONC his father arranged for him to be indentured to a tailor, and he had no 2 CONC say in the matter. 2 CONT - Ada's mother could not read or write. Ada taught her enough literacy 2 CONC skills to enable them to communicate bv letter, Ada's generation was the 2 CONC first to have free? primary? schooling. 2 CONT - Ada used to say that she and Isaac used to walk through Sherwood 2 CONC Forest, of Robin Hood fame, when they, were going together ('courting'). 2 CONT - Ada worked doing canniely? work before she was married - this was a 2 CONC sort of fancy sewing to put on collars and cuffs. At one stage she had a 2 CONC Jewish employer. He apparently used to have the factory cleaned 2 CONC meticulously before Passover, and there was a ban on leavened bread 2 CONC during this time. Ada said they used to smuggle bread in to eat. 2 CONT - Apparently there was a violent storm one night when she and Willie were 2 CONC coming to Australia. Everyone on board ship was terrified, and went up 2 CONC on deck. She tied Wiiiie to herself with a scarf and they went to bed. 2 CONC She thought, if the ship sank, at least they would die together. She 2 CONC went to sleep. Next morning it was calm. She said everyone was amazed 2 CONC that she went to bed and to sleep. 2 CONT - Ada woke up one morning, after Willie's death, with white hair. This, 2 CONC apparently was a result of the shock and stress. She used to cover her 2 CONC head with a scarf when she went out as she was so embarrassed. Her hair 2 CONC colouring never returned. 2 CONT - Isaac passed away whilst he and Ada were on holidays in Murwillumbah. 2 CONC Prior to this he used to always fall asleep when he sat down. Apparently 2 CONC he went to the doctors for a cheek up - that probably wasn't related to 2 CONC his sleeping! Gladys told me he came home and said - 'I told the doctor 2 CONC - are you trying to scare me? lt is my understanding that he had a 2 CONC stroke. 2 CONT 2 CONT 2 CONT ARRIVED: Arrived in Sydney, Australia on 20 September 1913 aboard the 2 CONC Commonwealth (6616 tons) from London.
