My last gig - 1996

Hi, this is a little page that doesn’t say very much. It’s here until I find something more to say. Maybe some more music will be forthcoming one day when I’m not so busy.

"Easily my favourite local piece this month is by Mike Goodison, a 32 year old who only started playing publicly last year. A late starter he may be, but he's also a genuinely idiosyncratic talent, with a marvellously abrasive sardonic voice and an intense strumming style."

Mark Demitrius, Rolling Stone (Aust)  Jan 1995

“A great artist who inspired me in the 90's and beyond.

His album "Bedroom Music" sits in my personal top 10 of all time. “

Hap Hayward - Dead Salesmen, Underminers

Mike Goodison was born in Melbourne Australia in 1962.

He got his first guitar for his 15th birthday and learned slowly. He played in a garage band CRAP with school friends Phillip and Robert Bailey from 1979 to 1981. CRAP never made it to a public stage.

In his 20s, residing in Hepburn Springs, he wrote poetry, published The Small Times poetry magazine 1988-90 and presented Dirty Poets' Society radio show with Phillip Bailey on 3CCC Central Victoria 1990-91.

In 1991-92 Mike wrote and performed comedy on community radio 3CCC as the noted sexologist Dr Jocelyn.

In 1993 he finally began to perform as a singer/songwriter. Soon forming a band The Laymen with poet/bassist Fraser Mackay and drummer Bob McClure. After the band split in 1994 recorded a solo album Bedroom Music.

An enthusiastic review in Rolling Stone magazine compared Mike with the English singer/songwriter Kevin Coyne. This led Mike to Coyne's record company, Rockport Records in Germany. Rockport released Bedroom Music in Europe, however plans for a tour, TV appearances and a follow up album fell through.

In 2001-02 he operated a website MusicToYourWords.com where he wrote music to people's lyrics for a fee. He found many people wanting music, but few willing to pay.

Mike has not played an advertised gig since 1996. He has though played occasionally at open mic nights.

Now back in the west of Melbourne where he came from, he says he is too busy with work and family to put much effort into words or music
