The Meteor LRPT signal is currently (Dec '09 - Jan '10) not in a stable, well publicised format, operating to any
regular schedule. It must be noted that this is a first-of-its-kind signal source from a new satellite that was only
launched in September 2009. Therefore, any information provided on this website is only of 'curiosity' value - found by
casual experiment, and definitely NOT the absolute truth, or definitive specification by any stretch of the imagination!
Getting at the Meteor LRPT imagery is like the children's game of "pass the parcel" (where a prize or treat is wrapped
in many layers of paper etc (- google it, if unfamiliar... ) The reception itself involves quite a few steps to recover the
'native' raw data, the 'noughts and ones' as it were.
From here, you then start to peel away the layers of the CCSDS protocol stack. This 'packetized' data delivery scheme
pops out a data stream which is now of a proprietry format, as designed by the satellite manufacturer. While the whole
process can appear daunting, each step on its own is quite simple to understand, or at least utilise available tools to
deal with.
